Denmark's Foreign Ministry Picks the Same Kiosk Maker, Twelve Years On

Location SKOVLUNDE

Mirra has won the tender to equip every Danish embassy and consulate with biometric kiosks - the second time the Skovlunde company has beaten the field for the contract.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has awarded Mirra the contract to supply biometric kiosks to all Danish missions worldwide, choosing in open competition the same company whose machines it has run since 2014.

Public contracts offer incumbents no guarantees. When the ministry put the equipment out to tender this year, Mirra's original kiosks had been in service for twelve years in embassies and consulates on every continent, capturing the photographs and fingerprints of Danes renewing passports abroad. The ministry weighed the offers and chose Mirra again.

The new contract covers fixed kiosks for the missions and mobile units for staff who must travel to a citizen. Rollout begins in 2027. The brief this time emphasised setup: embassies are small posts, often without IT staff, and the new generation is designed to work the day it arrives.

Winning a tender once can be timing, said Alex Ramskov Johannsen, Mirra's chief executive. Winning it again, after twelve years in the field, is a verdict on how the first ones held up.

The original kiosks will return to Skovlunde, where the company designs and builds its hardware.
